We ♥ Alberto Vargas, the King of Pin-ups

Alberto Vargas was used to say: “What’s more beautiful than a beautiful girl?”… Today, we are still agreeing with him, even if the beauties that he was painting were real and natural beautiful girls, miles away from the plastic, fake and nasty “beautiful girls” we are used to see everywhere nowadays.

Still today and still to many, the name of Alberto Vargas is synonymous with female sensuality of grace and beauty of the American woman. Joaquin Alberto Vargas y Chavez was born in Peru’s second largest city, Arequipa. He is famous for his surreal portraits of women. He always painted women realistically, the way he actually saw them. He was able to watch their real beauty, without filters and without respecting the limits of that time’s society.

On the other hand, Vargas’s timing was perfect.  It was the Jazz Age, and flappers and art deco were the vogue: the artistic environment was invigorating, fast-paced and exciting… Alberto worked hard, retouching negatives and drawing hats for a living. He was developing his unique skill in water-color, oil and pastels. He knew, however, that one day he was going to be a great artist… Today this a reality and we’re sharing it with you, if you still don’t know him and his masterpieces!
